Opinion Task : Princess Who dedicate Her Life for Thai People.

               In the morning of 2nd January 2008 Thai nation is in mourning for Princess Galyani Vadhana, who passed away after fight with cancer. She was 84 years old. She was recognized as a patron of art, culture more charities. She dedicate to public health and the welfare of the needy. She was awarded degrees in science and liberal arts from Lausanne University and she like to enjoyed numerous adventure sports such as skiing, horse riding and flying. The princess dedicates herself throughout her life to worthy causes, becoming a patron of 63 charitable organizations. Through her simple life style she endeared herself to the public.


              In 1950 Princess became a teacher. For nine years she taught French literature and history civilization at Chulalongkorn University. The Princess took up as head of the French Language and literature as well as the Foreign Language Department, which covered German, Japanese, Chinese and Russian. She also helped formulate the curriculum for the university's French language and literature course. The Princess was forced from royal duties to relinquish her teaching work. The Princess supported Thailand’s participation in the Academic Olympics in the fields of Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry, Computer and Biology. Her interest in the education of autistic children has helped spur state commitment, resulting in more facilities and improved programs for autistic children.

Health and care was one of Princess Galyani Vadhana’s interests, an apparent effort on her part to continue the cause of her father, Prince Mahidol of Songkla, known as Thailand’s Father of Medicine.


             When the Princess Mother passed away, the Princess carried the torch and continued the Princess Mother's various charity projects, making extended trips to rugged areas to provide health care to the needy without any concern for her own health, even though she was at an age when most others would be happy to retire. She lent her royal patronage to several health-oriented foundations that provide care to the needy. Among them were the Kidney Foundation of Thailand, The Cardiac Children Foundation, The Breast Foundation, The Prostheses Foundation and the Foundation for Slum Child Care.


             The Cardiac Children Foundation, The Foundation begun on 1981 and was patronized by Princess Galyani Vadhana since 1984, with her personal property and in addition to fund of her mother. The activity of foundation was develop very continue. Foundation helps many the cardiac children particular children from poor families to preserve by professional doctors with high technology tools. Besides this foundation disseminate the education of cardiac to doctors, nurses and people.


            The Breast Foundation was set up in December 1994, with fund of Princess Mother. Its object is promoted the knowledge and understanding about the breast cancer screening. The breast center was in Siriraj Hospital to provide the complete breast diseases examination and diagnosis, with the modern instruments and Professional Doctors in the center.


            The Princess also found to writing. She writes her first book name “Nataan samrab Dek”, when she was nine, she wrote 11 books on royal family and 10 travel book. She translated 3 books. Her book about her mother and her two brothers in their childhood are bestsellers. Always she was a teacher, Princess Galyani Vadhana sharing with the public the knowledge about countries she visits on education trips. As in her travelogues, television coverage of her royal trips was turn into short documentary on the destination, not the traveler.


            For animal lover, Princess has a dog name “Sib Sam”, when her dog was died a few years ago, The Princess set up a fund for the Department of Veterinary Medicine at Chulalongkorn University to care for sick and homeless animals. She also initiated a project to set up a special emergency care unit for animals as well as a hospital for abandoned animals.


            Thai biologist gives her honor; they named a new species of terrestrial crab discovered in Kanchanaburi after her. The crimson crab is known as “Poo Pra Prinang” in Thai.


             In addition her love classical music, Princess Galyani Vadhana was always support traditional arts in Thailand. When the Joe Louis Theatre, a traditional Thai puppet troupe, suffered financial problem and risked closing in 2004, she help them from this problem.


            Finally I invite all people in Thailand to mourning for Princess Galyani Vadhana. She is the good one person in dynasty, she dedicate herself for Thai people. The Princess is the Good sister of two kings, she is good daughter of The Princess Mom and she is the good memory of Thai people.
