Thai citizen were sorrowful from the death of Her Royal Highness Princess Galyani Vadhana who is the older sister of His Majesty the King. She had been in Siriraj Hospital because of abdominal cancer since mid-June. The princess peacefully passed away at 2.54, January 2nd while Their Majesty the King and Queen, accompanied by all the members of the Royal family, closely watched over her state.
On the 25th of October 2007, Thai citizen heard that Her Royal Highness Princess Galyani Vadhana had been receiving treatment at Siriraj Hospital because of her abnormal stomach. Royal physicians check and X-Ray her body then they found that she had a cancer.
fter that the Royal Household Bureau reported about Her Royal Highness Princess Glyani Vadhana’s state steadily. Her state became better and became worse alternately. The whole people in the country had come to the hospital to sign books to wishing the princess was well. The list of people that came to sign books from 7th November 2007 to 2nd January 2008 total up to 55 days is 360,075 people. Until the 1st of January 2008, the Royal Household Bureau said that Her Royal Highness Galyani Vadhana’s state was worsening. She didn’t have consciousness, breathless and defunct kidney. Then at 5.30am, acorrespondent reported that Her Royal Highness Princess Galyani Vadhana has peacefully passed away with the age 84 and has been receiving treatment at Siriraj hospital for 202 days.

However, the correspondent reported from the Government House that the Prime Minister had signed the notice about Her Royal Highness Princess Galyani Vadhana’s death in the 1st conference after New Year. The announcement said that from Household Bureau announcement on Her Royal Highness Princess Galyani death at 2nd January 2008, the Government was very sorrowful and considered that Her Royal Highness Princess Galyani Vadhana had divine grace for Thai citizens all of her life, so it was very appropriate to
- Let the government services, state enterprises and every academies to lower a flag at half mast for 15 days since 2nd January 2008.
- Let the bureaucrat and state enterprise’s officer wear mourning clothes for 50 days since 2nd January 2008.
At the same time, the Secretariat of the Cabinet was welded by the Household Bureau about Her Royal Highness Princess Galyani Vadhana bathing rites.
- Especially the Prime Minister bathing Her Royal Highness Princess Galyani Vadhana’s body at Piman Rattaya Throne Hall in the Grand Palace which is at the back of Dusit Maha Prasart Throne Hall. The Priminister must be arrived there before 15.00 and sit through the bathing rites.

At 3 pm , His Royal Highness Crown Prince Maha Vajiralongkorn, accompanied with Her Royal Highness Princess Chulabhorn Walailuk Mahidol, moved Her Royal Highness Princess Galyani Vadhana‘s body from Chalerm Prakiat Building to the bathing rites at Piman Rattya Throne Hall in the Grand Palace.
In the evening of the same day, Mr.Thongthong Chantarangsu, associate deputy, said that the bathing rites was finished and we will have a 100 all days all nights requiem. It started in the morning till night and consisted of giving food alms to a Buddhist monk, sermonizing, etc. The rite take place at Dusit Maha Phrasart until the crematorium is finished.
